Depeche Mode Baby!

OK so this blog is normally dedicated to the life and times of my beautiful baby boys, but today, I'm making an exception to that rule. Last night, Wesley and I went out alone. Without the boys. I mean, we really went out without the boys. All night long. A true date night. Ending with pizza at 200am! And when we woke up, we were still alone. In silence, having slept til 1000am. Pure bliss!

We drove the boys to spend the night at their grandparents house, while we partied at the Depeche Mode concert. DM launched their North American concert in Toronto and we had fifth row centre!! You have no idea how excited I was to see them again! DM has always been one of my favourite bands (and it doesn't hurt that I still have a boycrush on Martin Gore and Dave Gahan). They totally lived up to my expectations! I met up with some friends and fellow Moders that I haven't seen in ages. We drank, sang and danced to our favourite Depeche tunes, making it one of the best nights I've had in a really long time!

The boys got to swim in Noni and Papa's pool for the first time this weekend. It was so cold ... but the boys loved it. And when I say "boys", I mean Wesley and Jackson. Jackson just loved being in the water ... swirling around, splashing everyone. Jameson, on the other hand, hated it. He cried. A lot. It was pretty sad and cute, all at the same time! The next day, we put the boys on the grass, gave them a bowl of water, a couple toys, and let them go to town. Who knew a simple bowl and some water would provide squeals of delight!

So, I got a new 50mm f1.4 lens for my Pentax K200D and I love it! Did I mention that I LOVE it? It's a great portrait lens and it also takes amazing images up close with the creamiest bokeh I've ever seen! Here are a few pics that we took on Saturday when we went to the Burlington Waterfront for a belated Father's Day outing.

A Taste of the Tropics!

If you were looking for a Hawaiian First Birthday Luau, look no further! We threw the boys one heck of a party! We got into our best tropical outfits, decorated the house with palm trees and lei's, and ate the biggest Hawaiian feast we've ever had! Ever! It was such a fun day and we were so happy to share it with our closest family and friends!

The boys had the most fun eating their birthday cake. Two birthday cakes in a week! I know what you must be thinking ... yes, they were spoiled rotten (and I was a busy mama making their cakes and icing from scratch), but you only turn 1 once, right?!! One Year Ago Today

It was one year ago today that we experienced one of the best moments we'll ever have in our lives. I can't believe that it was a year ago today that our two beautiful boys were born. They were so tiny. So beautiful. So sleepy!!! Oh, I miss those days! We were so sleep deprived, feeding them round the clock. And we didn't know what we were doing at first, but we didn't care. We knew we were taking extra special care of our precious boys. We were so in love. Our twin miracles ...

We've savoured the past. We cherished our babies and held them tight. But now, it's time to let them go - just a little. To hold their hands as they learn to walk. To let them explore and thrive as little boys. Our boys aren't wee babies anymore. They're developing their own little personalities, which is so amazing to see, but they'll always be my babies, no matter what. And I'll always love them more than life itself.

Is it even possible to be this cute? Apparently so!

The boys and I celebrated Thomas' first birthday party today! We had a blast! It was the first time I've been out with them alone since moving them into "big boy" seats. Thankfully, Paul was able to help me bring one of them inside. It's not easy having two babies who can't walk yet.

The boys had so much fun playing with the other babies who were invited and with all the toys that were at their disposal, like the stereo, the remote control, and the fridge. And did they ever make themselves at home once they caught sight of Thomas' fridge garage. They didn't fight. Nope. Not at all. Not my sweet innocent boys! ;) All in all, they were well behaved and handled the crowd of people who wanted to say hi (and touch their hair) with grace! They even acquired a couple girlfriends by the end of the day. Jackson stole Elina's toy and shoved it in his mouth. Jameson pulled Annie's hair. If that ain't love, I don't know what is! Wes joined us for the last hour of the party, just in time for the birthday cake! Unfortunately, he missed us singing "Happy Birthday" to Thomas ... three times (don't ask). Then we headed home to feed the boys and put them down for their nap. They slept for 2 hours, so the party must have pooped them out! Why can't they nap like that every day!

I am finally starting to feel like myself again. Having a baby, let alone twins, can really mess with your head. Your body changes significantly. People look at me as a mother first. Not a woman. And that's sometimes hard for me to swallow.

But I'm finally starting to feel like ME again. My pre preg clothes are now falling off my backside, which is so exciting! I was able to get a pair of jeans off that I haven't worn in a couple years with it buttoned and zipped up (you don't wanna know hahah). Oh and I bought a summer dress from H&M the other day for my ridiculously skinny sister, only to find out that the dress fit me just as well. It's about effin time!

I almost forgot to mention my stalker. I was out by myself and this random guy told me that I was "very lucky" and walked off. I have no idea what he was talking about, but it made me feel good in a creepy kinda way! Anyway, the point of this rant is that I've realised that I can still have the life I once had. I can still feel good. I just need to make the effort to get out there and enjoy life and the people in it, while appreciating what I have in front of me!

The boys love to follow me around. They flock to me like I'm some magical creature. It's amazing! But they tend to gang up on me too, one hanging off each leg. Right now, our kitchen is the new "peach pit" and they love playing with the "jukebox" (aka the fridge farm). They love taking all the magnets off the fridge and throwing them on the floor. Then they laugh. And then I clean up after them. And then they laugh. At me. Where is the justice!?

Mmmm this bed is way better than mine!

We got terribly sick over the long weekend. I don't know exactly what we caught but I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy (not that I have one but you know what I mean)! We tried our best not to get the boys sick. Both our parents came down to care for us and the boys while we recovered, but on Sunday, Jameson started showing signs of letargy and then bam .... barf central! Jackson followed suit on Monday.

All I need is a pillow and the remote and I'll be just fine!

Being barfed on ... well, that was a new experience for me! And the following week was the week from hell. Wes and I weren't back to normal yet. We were barely eating and were totally burnt out. We felt lousy but we needed to be strong for the boys. They were troopers. They didn't eat much. They slept a lot. And they were cranky on and off. But so began the love affair with our pillows ... it was the only thing they wanted! The good news is that I lost 7 pounds (wait, isn't that a movie???) and am now officially back to my pre pregnancy weight! Hooray for vomit! :)

So ... I started this blog well over a year ago and realised that I have yet to really introduce myself to you, so it's only fitting that I provide a little background on ME so here goes.

My name is Robyn. I'm a shopaholic and have been known to be extremely undomesticated as I'm sure you are well aware of by now. I'm a musician by day and writer by night. I'm a true insomniac. I like being in front of the camera, as well as behind it. I was classically trained in piano, but my true passion has always been my voice. I went to University. I partied. I travelled. I loved. I lost. I broke hearts, including my own. And I did it all and with no regrets.

I am a flirt by design and I love to laugh. I am too social for my own good. I'm chatty. I'm witty. Some may say I'm gullible. Oh, and I'm super sarcastic. I believe people come into my life for a reason (even if they leave just as quickly as they came). I believe in colours and vibes. I believe in best friends and soul mates. If you're reading this, there's a reason why you're in my life, and for that, I am grateful to you.

I wear my heart on my sleeve. I believe that crying is cathartic. I often want what I cannot have, but it doesn't stop me from trying. I aim to please others, but I'm learning now that the only person I need to please is myself. I have an abundance of love to give and I'm learning to live each day like it's your last. Nothing says Mothers Day like a good ol fashioned oven fire to start off the morning! The dough for the breakfast buns Wesley bought ended up rising too quickly, so he thought it was best to make them before we turned in. But all the butter and sugar that he used to make them extra yummy ended up leaking onto the oven floor, causing our oven to smoke like a crazy biatch. We opened all the windows and doors and tried frantically to air out the house. Man ... that really sucked! But Wesley redeemed himself later that morning. I had breakfast and mimosa's in bed, followed by homemade cards from the boys, a beautiful lunch that turned into dinner, and overall, a carefree day of lazing around the house while Wes looked after the boys. It was perfect! My first Mothers Day ..... I could get used to this! ;)

The boys can now pull themselves to standing and they love doing it in their crib. Oy veh! This has changed our bedtime routine drastically. Their newfound freedom means that they spend time laughing and jumping in their cribs, rather than winding down for bed. Tonight, Jackson would not listen to me. I kept putting him down and he'd quickly grab onto the rails and pull himself back up to standing. And then he'd laugh at me. Yup ... my life!

It's illegal to be this cute, is it not? I just can't say it enough ... I just love my boys so much!! We get photos taken every 3 months to document their growth and I was so happy with the way these turned out! The boys were well behaved. They didn't cry or spitup once (hallelujah)! And they actually enjoyed themselves. We let them crawl around on the floor while we made funny faces and sang funny songs. We kept things casual and we got some great results! This one is my favourites! It totally captures our boys to a tee!

Not that I can't take photos myself, but it's nice to be in a few for a change. Now I know what some of you may be thinking, but I'm far from vain (cough). I am so proud of my boys. When I look into the eyes of Jackson and Jameson, it's hard for me to fathom that they belong to me. That I made them. That they grew in my tummy for 9 months. That they have my eyes. Life is a beautiful thing, and we have that times 2, so forgive me if I enjoy sharing my joy with the world.

So, we all know that Jackson loves to scream! Ever since he was about 4 months old, he discovered his voice and it's only gotten louder and louder! I really can't blame the kid. He probably got it from me! Sometimes, he hits notes that Mariah Carey can't even hit. And I swear, I'll be deaf by the time he's 2! Normally, Jameson gets very upset and covers his ears when Jackson screams (he has very sensitive ears) but today, he had a different reaction to Jackson's excitement! Just watch!

Yesterday, we decided to celebrate Daddy's Birthday. We know it was on Wednesday but we don't like Wednesdays. We decided Friday was better and Daddy had no say in the matter! The day started off with Daddy leaving for an Indian Head Massage at the spa! He came home feeling like a million bucks! Jackson greeted Daddy at the door with his party hat on and sang "Happy Birthday" to him (Jameson was being antisocial and decided he'd prefer to nap longer so he missed out on surprising his Daddy)! I know, the boys look so cute in their party hats right? Well Dad wasn't left out. He got one too! He was the Birthday Prince! ;)

While Daddy was out, Mum tried to make carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese icing as a surprise, but they didn't turn out. Ooops! I goofed up! But if you like "Just Like Mom" cupcakes, then they turned out just right! Thank goodness for Plan B - two bit cinnamon buns! Jameson woke up and the three of us sang Happy Birthday to Daddy again! We had birthday lunch and when the boys went to bed, we had a special birthday dinner & dessert planned in peace and quiet aaaaaaaaaaah! It was a nice day! :)

Our boys love to rock n roll! They look the part and they certainly dress the part! Now the play the part! We bought these nifty guitars for the boys last year. We thought we were going to give them their guitars as a Christmas gift but Daddy couldn't wait to get them started, so they've been playing these since they were about 4 months old LOL! They're quite good at it too! Here a pic of them in action!

9 Months In The Making!

When the boys were born, we decided that we would document their growth in a special way. Every month, we take a photo of our boys inside Daddy's guitar case. It's really neat to see their progression of growth every month, but this month, things changed ... they no longer fit (tear tear), so we had to improvise! We took the boys to the park today after Gavin's 1st Birthday Party to swing on the swings! It was a little chilly so we didn't last very long but the boys seemed to have fun! Jackson enjoyed the pure thrill of the swing, while Jameson explored, taking in what was going on around him ... these twins are so totally different, it's not even funny!

We love Maple Syrup!

The Fourniers and Russells family went to Bronte Creek to partake in the Maple Syrup Festival. It was our first outing of many for 2009 and aaaahhh, it was a beautiful day! The perfect day to ring in the boys turning 9 months old! Too bad the park was so packed that we couldn't enjoy most of the activities that took place that day. All the lines were so long, so we weren't able to buy any maple syrup, fudge, or sugar cookies. I wanted maple taffy so bad but again, the lineup was so long ... what a bummer! Don't go to the Maple Syrup Festival during March Break people ... it is nuts!! But we weren't going to let it get us down. We went to the Festival with a mission in mind ... PANCAKES!!!

We went to the Pancake House and the lineup was out the door (and around the corner) but we didn't care. It was 200pm and we were starving so we lined up and got our grub by 300pm! Was it worth the wait? Hell ya! We got 10 pancakes, 4 cups of pure maple syrup, 5 sausauges, a heap of bacon, and 4 drinks for $20.00! Holy mama, it was so gooooooooood!

In fact, they are meant to block out loud sounds. We bought them for the boys because we like to go to festivals in the summer, which tend to be very loud. We wanted to make sure we were protecting their fragile little ears. Anyway, Jameson loves his headphones. Wanna know why? He doesn't have to hear Jackson scream his head off! Do they make these for adults? :)

Some people think raising twins is just like raising one baby. Well, I'll reserve my true opinion on that right now because I don't want to piss anyone off, but I will say this ... it is NOT the same (and yes, I've been alone for extended periods of time with one baby and it's not the same). It's twice the work. It's twice the expense. It's twice the diapers ... twice the poop! Twice the food and formula... twice the spitup (oh the spitup)! Twice the runny noses ... twice the sleepless nights. Oh, I could go on. Even with Wes around to help, we are always caring for a baby! But it's also twice the joy and, without a doubt, twice the love, so we wouldn't have it any other way!

I thought I'd post this video so you can hear what two babies sound like on a daily basis. Although this video shows you twin chaos, it also shows you twin delight. Enjoy!

And what do you do with an 8 month old? Well, we took our boys to get their first haircut because their hair was out of control!

Jackson was a total trooper. He sat still and loved every minute of it (thank goodness, he had a lot of hair)! Jameson, on the other hand, was anxious and all over the place. He fidgeted the entire time so it was clear that he didn't like having his hair cut at all (although the pics say otherwise). Oh well .. they left the salon looking like little men! How cute are they!

So, apparently, this is the age where babies love to explore ... and how do they explore? With their mouth! It doesn't matter what they touch, it goes straight in their mouth, so we have to be very careful with what they get access to these days ...

Who knew bongo's were so tasty!

What do they love putting in their mouth the most, you ask? Asides from their feet, they love putting their lovey's in their mouth. And I have to tell you, it's so gross! A friend told us that we should get the boys day loveys and that his son loved Spunky the Dog. We couldn't find Spunky so we settled on something that was very close, and named him Ralphie! Problem is, they are always chomping on its ears and tail. Sometimes, I swear I can ring out Ralphie's ears with saliva. I can't tell you how nasty that is. Yet, they still love sticking it in their mouths, even when it's soaking wet! I'll never understand this! I can be a big flirt and I love to kiss (like who doesn't) but wet kisses and ratty ol' chewed up dog ears ... uhhh no thanks, I'll pass! :)

Valentines Love

The boys surprised me with a trip to the spa for Valentines Day! How sweet! I got a spa manicure and pedicure done, which was great, because I got pampered for about three hours! Ahh .. it was heavenly and so relaxing! I came home looking and feeling rejuvenated. But I missed my boys a lot and was so happy to see them once I got home! I am a truly blessed twin mama! :)

Jackson and Jameson occupy most of my day. So household chores like laundry get tossed to the side. I friggin hate laundry. And I hate cleaning. This picture just stresses me out. This is a month's worth of sheets and towels, which was done in 3-4 loads. Please don't hate on me. Yikes!! Anyway, I thought ... why not have some fun with it! Jameson seemed to enjoy it :)

Jackson, Wesley, Jameson, and Robyn

The boys are 7.5 months already! I can't believe it. And I can't believe how many times I say that I can't believe how big they're getting. How fast they're growing. How much they're changing (tear). I look at their beautiful faces and life flashes before my eyes. I remember my childhood and those carefree years ...

I remember how much I yearned to be older. I used to sneak in my parent's closet. I used to wear this dress my mother had. It was white and fluffy. I'd take one of her bras and stuff it with oranges wishing one day for a nice big shiny chest to call my own. Little did I know that I'd get my wish ... and it sucked! Thank God for plastic surgeons! I also used to wear my mum's heels and lipstick. I used to dream in the mirror. And now I look at my sons' and can't help but see the next 20 years flash before my eyes. I can see them graduate from high school. I can see their first crush, their first love. I can see how handsome they'll be on their wedding day.

We can teach our children to embrace their childhood, but nothing I say or do will make them realise how precious their little lives are. How important they are to me. To Wesley. They are without a doubt, our pride and joy, and I feel so lucky to know them. I feel honoured that they look at me and call me mum. OK, they may not necessarily say "mum" yet. It's more like "maaauummmmm", followed by "ba ba da da ga ga" but I'll take it anyday!

Here's to parenthood and all the wonderful things that lie ahead for our lives together as a family! The journey has just begun! :)

Our boys are sitting up on their own now! And they had so much fun interacting with one another while we tested out our new Pentax K200D. They are also trying very hard to crawl. They love being on their tummies. They arch their bums in the air. They roll. They get on their knees. It's so cute to watch! Jackson is especially funny to watch. He gets into a "push up" position but ends up pushing himself backwards! It's only a matter of time now! Where did my little babies go?

Our boys have been great eaters since the day they were born! Always hungry! And it seems, despite our best efforts, that we can never feed them enough! Our doctors said that most babies will tell you when they're full. Our boys are the exception to that rule. We could probably give them 20 oz of formula in one sitting! Don't worry, we don't do that! Right now, we have been cutting them off at 6 oz since they're also getting solids twice a day! It seems to be working but on some days, 6 oz is just not enough! Here's what happens when it's not enough ...

Tales of Silent Poops!

We're having fun trying out new foods with Jax and Jaz and we're quickly learning that certain types of food create interesting results in the poop department. Last week, we gave the boys prunes and pears for breakfast with their cereal because they were a little constipated. Well that combination resulted in Jameson having a poop that went up to his shoulders! It was so bad that we had to cut his brand new onesie off of him. And into the bath he went! We laughed. He cried. Oh the joys of solid food!

Tonight, we discovered another lethal combination in the poop department! The culprit ... peas!When the boys are having a poop, they strain, make noises, and get red in the face. It's pretty cute! But tonight, after their last feed, Jameson shocked us with a silent but deadly poop! The boys were clean and ready for bed ... everything was going smoothly! But when Wes went to pick up Jameson to bring him upstairs for the night, his hand was covered in runny poop! His diaper was filled and there was poop up his back, yet again! We laughed. He cried. And I had to give him a SECOND bath for the night! Oh, and he ruined a brand new sleeper! Two baths in one hour = one tired mama! Here's a photo of Jameson eating his favourite solid food!

I turned my back to put Jameson's bowl in the microwave and when I turned back around, this is how I found Jackson! What a mess! So, the moral of the story is ... don't trust a baby to behave when their food is staring at them in the face! In all fairness to Jackson, this totally wasn't fair. He's my hungry hippo! You just cannot put any type of food, especially fruit, in front of a hungry baby and assume that they'll stay put and behave!

Snuggle Time With Daddy

We had our very First Christmas with the boys this year! We had a blast! Jackson woke up super excited and ready to go! Jameson, on the other hand, was fast asleep! In fact, nothing would get him going, except his early morning bottle! Once they were fed, we took them downstairs to see what Santa brought for them for Christmas! Their eyes were alive! They couldn't wait to get their wee hands all over those beautifully wrapped gifts! They wore the paper off and went to town! It was so cute!

Waking up with laryngitis ... not so cute! But I somehow managed to channel my inner LC (Lauren Conrad that is) and took advantage of my newfound raspy voice. The boys were spoiled rotten by both of their everyone, especially their Grandparents and their Aunts and Uncles! The boys even received an extra special visit from a certain Mr. Santa Claus on his day off! How lucky is that!
