An early Christmas gift!

The day after our first ultrasound, Wesley and I had a long talk. Turns out, he had been secretly wishing for twins! In fact, he tried to talk to me about it on a couple of occasions before we received the news, but I wouldn't hear it. It's like he knew all along ......

The next day, we saw our family doctor. She congratulated us on our
double blessing and gave us her blessing to tell our family the good news! We knew we wanted to surprise our parents in a special way, so we bought two Christmas ornaments. It was of a stork delivering a baby.

So today was the big day! We visited my parents first and gave them our little gift. My mum started jumping up and down, crying and screaming, so she obviously figured it out. I then turned to my dad who was still staring at the ornament. He gave me a look. I knew he'd figure it out. He read the tag that said "2 for 1" and said, "You're not having twins are you?". He immediately ran over to me shaking, with tears in his eyes. Turns out, my mum and dad always wanted to have twins, so they couldn't be happier for us!

After sharing the news with my brother and sister, I tried to share the news with Auntie. I told her I had huge news and to come over. She called me back 30 minutes later and asked me if I won the lottery (laugh). I told her I did, in a way, and that I was pregnant with twins. She didn't take the news very well at first, but I knew she'd come around. It only took her a day! :)

After our visit with my family, we drove to Barrie to share the good news with Wesley's parents. My mother in law did not clue into our "surprise" at all. She thought we were giving her an ornament symbolising MaryEllen's pregnancy. When we told her that it had nothing to do with MaryEllen, she smiled ... she knew. And my father in law, just like my father, figured out that we were having twins. We then called Wesley's sisters and shared our good
news.

It was the perfect day - one we'll never forget!

Say what???

So, I'm laying on the table in the ultrasound room, feeling nervous and scared, all at the same time. Wesley had a cancellation at the last minute and was able to join me. Thank God - I thought my only issue that night was having to hold in my pee!

The ultrasound technician moved her wand across my belly for a few minutes (and the silence was not golden). I had no idea what I was seeing on the screen, so I tried to remain calm and patient. About 10 minutes into the ultrasound, the technician turned to me and the conversation went a little like this:

Technician: So, you're very pregnant!
Robyn: Wow, that's great! I was a little worried ...
Technician: How pregnant do you think you are?
Robyn: About 6 weeks.
Technician: Yup, you're actually 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant.
Robyn: Fantastic! I'm so excited!
Technician: And you're pregnant with twins ...

THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!!!

And with that, I jumped off the table! I looked at Wesley and he was grinning from ear to ear. Then, I looked at the technician. I asked her if she was pulling my leg. She said no and asked if she should leave the room. I told her no and that I was in shock ... how was this possible? It was a shock for us to get pregnant so quickly, let alone to be pregnant with twins! I just couldn't wrap my head around the news. I laid back on the table, my head filled with thoughts. I wasn't sure how to react.

Then the technician showed me their heartbeats and I was in love

A summer to remember ...

Wesley and I had an interesting summer to say the least. I turned 30 in June and embraced that 30 was really the new 20! We went on vacation in July to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. We were desperate for some much needed R&R. Unfortunately, didn't quite get what we bargained for ...

Long story short, we ended up getting very sick and overdosed on an anti malaria pill called Mefloquine. We were given the wrong prescription by our doctor and the pharmacist never caught the error. We were forced to spend the rest of the summer getting our lives back in order, which was not easy. Here are some photos from the trip!

In August, we celebrated our 2 year anniversary and decided it was time to discuss whether we should start a family. At this point in time, Wesley's cousin Kendra was pregnant and so was his sister MaryEllen. We knew that we'd never be fully prepared to take the plunge and decided it was best to just "go for it". Unfortunately, our doctors advised us that we couldn't get pregnant until the Mefloquine was out of our systems. We couldn't be more disappointed! It was 105 days of pure agony, but as soon as October hit - the countdown was on! We had no idea how quick it would take for us to get pregnant, so we tried to keep an open mind. That is until October 26th when I took a pregnancy test and found out that we may be expecting ...

We took another pregnancy test on October 29th and it confirmed that we were indeed pregnant, so we decided it was time to take a trip to our family doctor. Our doctor confirmed that we were pregnant, but she wasn't sure how pregnant we really were since my hormone levels were low. We were told to keep our news to ourselves until the dating ultrasound took place on November 13th.

That is when we found out the biggest news of our lives ...
